2024 NWSL Attendance Report (Week 6 Update)

Follow along here at Beyond Women’s Sports for the weekly attendance updates in the NWSL. This is the sixth report for the 2024 season, as the regular season began on March 16. The numbers reported below are up to and including all games through games on April 28. The NWSL saw an increase in teams for 2024 with the return of the Utah Royals and the expansion team Bay FC.

NWSL Attendance: Week in Review

The league once again had all 14 teams in action on the weekend of April 26 -28. Four out of the seven games had crowds of over 10,000. Meanwhile, Angel City drew the largest crowd with 19,178 while North Carolina saw their largest crowd of the season (8,135). However, Chicago had the smallest crowd of only 4,544. The 2022 expansion teams, Angel City FC and the San Diego Wave FC continue to lead the league in attendance.

Two months into the season and the majority of teams are above their final 2023 averages. Seattle, Portland, and Chicago remain the three teams below last season’s final average. Houston and Louisville are the two teams currently seeing the largest increase from 2023. Overall, the league remains ahead of 2023’s final average, now up by 785.

Capacity numbers are provided by each team’s individual stadium’s website. Also reported are each team’s individual high and low games for the season. Finally, all attendance numbers are provided through the league’s website and ESPN box scores.

The Week Ahead

The upcoming week will see their busiest schedule of the year with ten games in total today taking place. This Wednesday, May 1, will see three games, headlined by Portland at Bay FC at 10 pm on CBS Sports Network. This Saturday’s ION double-header will feature North Carolina facing Gotham FC followed by Washington heading west to face the Thorns.
