From the Pride’s Ad Astra Kits selling out in a day to roster drop after drop, it has been a busy week for the NWSL. And with the first game of the Challenge Cup days away, Houston and KC are not the only teams heading to the pitch with a new look. Sky Blue F.C is rebranding for the first time in the club’s history as NJ/NY Gotham F.C.
“Today marks a new chapter for women’s soccer in the region. We’re making this important change due to our rapid growth and evolution. Our new name reflects our expanding regional reach. It captures the relentless determination, unlimited energy, and incredible diversity of the communities we represent.”
– Club Chair, Tammy Murphy
The decision was heavily influenced by a fan-centered process to cater to the team’s growing reach while respecting the club’s past. Including focus groups, surveys, and open conversations with some of its most dedicated fans.
The Crest
The new crest contains several elements that celebrate the club’s growth and history. The most notable feature: the Statue Of Liberty’s crown, was voted the most recognizable symbol of the area. While the lettering highlighting both cities and colors pays homage to the club’s roots. With elements of the club’s previous color scheme making an appearance. After fans overwhelmingly requested to keep the scheme alive in the new era. The team’s new official colors Sky Blue, Gotham Black, and Cloud White, not only represent the club’s history, future but, most notably, the club’s dedicated supporter group, Cloud 9.
“We view our rebrand as a representation of the bold transformation this club has gone through the past few years. It’s the natural next step on our mission to take our club to the next level. We want to inspire our growing fanbase and establish ourselves as the preeminent destination for success on and off the pitch.”
– Vice Chair, Ed Nalbandian
