With Week Four of the AU Softball Championship Season underway, fans are getting even more great performances at the plate and in the circle. Games 19 and 20 were opposites of each other but still delivered. That being said, here’s a recap of the first two games of Week Four.
Game 19: Team Nickles Walks it Off in a 3 – 2 Win Over Team Urtez
In this game, there were 11 total hits as both teams played solid defense paired with steady pitching. The first run of the game came in the top of the third as Anissa Urtez had an RBI single. Next, Tori Vidales slammed a solo homer to left-center in the fourth to give Urtez’s squad a 2 – 0 lead.
However, Bubba Nickles and her team tied it up in the fifth with a two-run home run by Kelsey Harshman. It remained tied entering the seventh inning as Team Urtez went scoreless in the top half.
Nickles stepped into the batter’s box with two runners on and two outs facing Rachel Garcia. Ultimately, the captain came through with a game-winning RBI to score Jordan Roberts. Additionally, it was Nickles’ second walk-off in this AU Softball Championship Season.
Game 20: Team Alexander Shines in the Circle in a 5 – 0 win over Team Davidson
Unlike the first game of the doubleheader, this game was decided early on. Odicci Alexander and her squad got homers in the third and fourth innings from Dejah Mulipola and Delanie Wisz, respectively.
Mulipola’s was a two-run shot with history attached to that homer. It was the 20th home run of her AU career, including her 13th career in the Championship Season. She’s the only player to reach the milestone between AUX and the Championship Season.
Gwen Svekis hit an RBI single, while Mulipola scored in the fifth inning to conclude the offense for Alexander’s squad. When it comes to the pitching, Alyssa Denham tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.
What’s more, Alexander struck out four in the final two innings to complete the shutout. In all, Mia Davidson and her team had five hits in the game. Two came from Andrea Filler and one from Victoria Hayward and Sam Fischer.
