A’ja Wilson picks up Western Conference Player of the Week Honor

On Monday afternoon (May 16th), the WNBA announced that 2020 MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces has picked up the first Western Conference Player of the Week for this season from May 6th-15th. This is Wilson’s 7th Player of the Week honor in her fifth year in the league. Additionally, Wilson ties Becky Hammon for a franchise record of 7 Player of the Week honors. Here is A’ja Wilson Picks Up Western Conference Player of the Week Honor.

“It means that I’ve gotta try and get an 8th. I don’t wanna be tied, I wanna beat Becky. [Laughter] But it’s a blessing honestly in this league it is not easy to do the things we’ve been doing, so it’s honestly a blessing to just have my name up there.”

Wilson has been a significant contributor to the Aces’ success this season, having a 3-1 record tied for first in the league. She opened up the season with 3-straight double-doubles in games against Phoenix, Seattle and Washington. The Aces most recently dominated in a win over the Atlanta Dream, breaking franchise records in 3-point attempts and 3-point makes. In the win against the Dream, Wilson had 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks.

A’ja currently averages 15.0 PPG, 11.0 RBG, and 3.75 BPG. She leads the league in blocked shots and is second in the league for rebounds. Wilson is one of three players in the league to average a double-double so far this season. The Aces next play at home against the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, May 17th at 7 pm PST.

About Aislyn Jowers

I've grown up going to NCCAW games, when Tiffany Mitchell was drafted to the Indiana Fever in 2016 it opened the doors to the WNBA for me. Ever since then, I have been an avid watcher of both the WNBA and NCAAW games. Instead of bothering my family and friends with my thoughts about the game, I decided I will write about it instead.
