An Unforgettable day in Athletes Unlimited Softball

By and large, when the bats are hot in Athletes Unlimited Softball, there’s no cooling them off. It was a day that those at Parkway Bank Sports Complex would not soon forget, as many records were made. So, without further ado, let’s recap the action-packed game twenty-one along with game twenty-two of the Athletes Unlimited Softball.

Without question, Haylie McCleney’s squad came to play, scoring an Athletes Unlimited Softball record of 20 runs in a game. In this case, the previous record was 18 runs, which happened three times. Moreover, every hitter for Team McCleney got at least a hit, as six players had multiple hits. Mia Davidson and Amanda Lorenz slammed a homer in the second inning.

Davidson hit a three-run homer to right-center while Lorenz’s was a two-run shot to center field. Also, Caleigh Clifton and McCleney added an RBI each in the inning. Clifton garnered MVP 2 honors with her three-hit, three-RBI game.

In the following inning, Clifton went deep to left field, adding two more runs for Team McCleney. Next, Shannon Rhodes decided to hit her fourth homer in the last three games in the third to left-center. Like the second inning, McCleney’s squad had a seven-run inning in the sixth.

Davidson had two doubles and two RBIs in the inning, Lorenz a three-run triple as Rhodes and Aubrey Leach contributed an RBI apiece. Lorenz was the game’s MVP 1 with her six-RBI game effort. McCleney added the final run for her team in the seventh on a groundout RBI to first base. Pitcher Mariah Mazon was the MVP 3, throwing five innings, allowing three runs and six hits.

As for Amanda Chidester’s team, it was a game they want to soon forget. They scored two runs in the second with RBIs by Sydney Sherrill and Anissa Urtez. Sherrill added an RBI in the fourth and Tori Vidales hit a two-run home run in the seventh for their remaining runs.

Altogether, the 25 total runs were the most in a single game in Athletes Unlimited Softball history. It overtook the record of 22 runs combined in an August 2020 matchup between Team Wagner and Team Pendley.

All things considered, this was the cooldown game after the first game gave us a lot of heat. After two scoreless innings, Dejah Mulipola’s team scored all three runs in the third inning. Sydney Romero hit a double to left center, scoring Jazmyn Jackson and Hannah Flippen.

In addition, Erika Piancastelli scored Romero for an RBI single in the inning. Romero was the game’s MVP 1 for her two-RBI effort at the plate.  Additionally, pitcher Taylor McQuillin won MVP 2 honors for tossing four innings, allowing one hit with four strikeouts. Lilli Piper and her effort at the dish gave her MVP honors.

Odicci Alexander picked up her second save of the season for Team Mulipola. The lone run for Sahvanna Jaquish’s squad came in the sixth with an RBI single to center field by Andrea Filler.
