Hammon’s Coaching Career
Hammon became an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs in 2014. Her time with one of the best coaches in the NBA, Gregg Popovich, will pave the way for her to be a good NBA coach. Hammon played the point guard position, which is pretty much like having a coach on the floor, and she played it at a high level.
In 2015 Hammon became the first female head coach in the NBA Summer League. That Summer, Hammon coached the Spurs to the Las Vegas Summer League title. Hammon is more than ready to be a head coach in the NBA.
McMillan Fired
The Pacers fired head coach Nate McMillan after the Miami Heat swept the Pacers in the first round of the playoffs. Also, the pacers were swept again last year in the first round as well. McMillan is a good coach; his record was 183-136 in four years in Indiana. But McMillan’s playoff record is probably what made the Pacers front office want to move on. Under McMillan, the Pacers had four straight first-round exits and were swept three out of four playoff appearances.
I like this Pacers job for Becky Hammon because the Pacers have an excellent roster; they need players to remain healthy. Indiana lost Domantas Sabonis, and it hurt the team. Hammon could bring all the knowledge she has from her playing career. Also years of experience being an assistant coach for one of the best franchises in NBA history, the San Antonio Spurs. The Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, New Orleans Pelicans, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Oklahoma City Thunder all have head coaching vacancies: Hammon should be hired for one of these jobs; she has earned it.
