The Atlanta Dream made a big move on Tuesday, hiring Brooklyn Cartwright as Director of Basketball Operations. It is the Dream’s first move under the new ownership group. Cartwright is an Atlanta native and has experience at the Division 1 basketball level; she served as an assistant basketball coach and Director of Basketball Operations.
Via press release, Cartwright had this to say. “I am beyond thrilled to be joining the Atlanta Dream organization and get back to doing what I love at an elite level,” Cartwright said. “I grew up attending Dream games every summer, so having the opportunity to become a part of this amazing organization is truly a dream come true. I would like to thank Coach Nicki Collen and the rest of the Atlanta Dream family for believing in my abilities and offering me a chance to work in service alongside the coaching staff and front office. I am so excited to get to work.”
Basketball Experience
Cartwright’s most recent basketball experience was with the South Carolina State women’s basketball team; with the Bulldogs, Cartwright was in charge of operations, social media, and film studies. Also, worked with Lenoir-Rhyne, Marshall, and Georgia Southern women’s basketball teams in various positions.
Via press release Atlanta head coach Nicki Collen has this to say. “Three things that were important to me in finding the right person for the Dream were organization, communication and loyalty and I believe Brooklyn checks those boxes and more,” head coach Nicki Collen said. “She has a wealth of collegiate basketball operations experience, is an excellent communicator, comes highly recommended by trusted peers of mine in this profession and already calls Atlanta home. I am excited to welcome Brooklyn to our staff.”
It will be interesting to see what Brooklyn Cartwright will bring to the Atlanta Dream franchise; they have a lot of talent and look good on paper. Let’s see if they can turn the corner and be a playoff team next season.
