Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones have given the Sun consistency. On July 22, Thomas achieved the Sun’s first franchise triple-double. A. Thomas ended the game with 15 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. Thomas’ name has been entered in the Defensive Player of the Year conversations. B. Jones continues to be a silent storm for the Sun, averaging 13.9 points and five rebounds. Courtney Williams has hit a stride with her mid-range jumper and continues to rebound well.

No doubt the Sun had some struggles this season; veteran PG Jasmine Thomas suffered an ACL tear early in the season. The team picked up Bria Hartley last month, but she also went down with a torn ACL. Although the Sun have lost ten games this season, they have had some key road wins. While the Sun captured road wins against Vegas and Seattle, the margin of victory was slim.

Areas to lockdown

As the Connecticut Sun tries to capture the franchise’s first championship, there are a few areas for improvement. They will have to protect the ball, play defense and score more. Connecticut averages just under 90 points per game; this may not be enough to top teams like Vegas and Chicago. The Sun need to play through Jonquel Jones more. If teams double team J.Jones she can kick it out to DeWanna Bonner on the wing or Williams for a midrange jumper.
