The Dallas Wings, currently struggling with a shortage of guards, have made a strategic move by bringing in point guard Odyssey Sims on a hardship contract. This decision comes at a crucial time for the team, as they are in the midst of a challenging season.
A hardship exception is a unique rule in basketball. It is a replacement contract that any team can use when they have two players out due to injury, illness, or other conditions. In this case, Sims replaces Morgan Bertsch, who was signed as a replacement for forward Maddy Siegrist’s injury last week (finger) but was released on Monday.
Sims is Back With Wings

Sims, the second overall pick in the 2014 WNBA Draft by the Tulsa Shock. She brings a wealth of experience and talent to the Dallas Wings. Her career statistics speak volumes-averaging 11.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. She was a standout member of the 2014 All-Rookie team. Also was a 2019 All-Star and made the All-WNBA Second Team while playing for the Minnesota Lynx.
Sims also is from Texas and attended Baylor University. At Baylor she was a member of the 2012 National Championship Baylor Bears Women’s Basketball team that finished the season with a perfect 40-0 record.
The Dallas Wings have been in search of a point guard who can effectively run the offense and distribute the ball. Adding Odyssey Sims to the roster is a significant move that is expected to fill this crucial role. Her experience and skills as a true point guard are set to substantially impact the team.
