The Folsom Lake College women’s basketball team came into Tuesday night’s matchup against Sierra College ranked No.16. Sierra came in tied for 20th. The Falcons beat the Wolverines 66-60 behind a solid first half.
Folsom Lake led at the half 36-26; Sierra only played with seven players and played a tough game. The Wolverine outscored the Falcons 34-30 in the second half.
Alysa Lopez led the Falcons with 21 points on 6-11 shooting while hitting all nine of her free throws. Lopez also grabbed six rebounds. Corrie Harrison finished with a double-double, scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Macie Purbaugh added ten points to give the Falcons three scorers in double figures.
Folsom Lake shot 42.9% from the field but only 22.2% from beyond the arc. The Falcons did a great job of rebounding; they outrebounded the Wolverines 37-28. Folsom Lake did an excellent job on the defensive holding Sierra to 37.9 % from the field and 16.7% from beyond the arc.
The Wolverines had some tough luck. I counted about five threes that rimed out, but they showed a lot of heart playing with only seven players. Julianne Cotterill led Sierra in scoring with 20 points off the bench while also grabbing eight rebounds. Alyssa Premo added 15 points, while Christiane Carlise scored 13 points for Sierra.
Defense and rebounding will win you games, and that’s what the Falcons did well on Tuesday night.
