The Iowa Hawkeyes rebounded after Northwestern’s home loss to beat Nebraska 95-86. With the in Iowa improves to 8-4 and Nebraska 13-2.
Iowa almost led from wire to wire, but Nebraska grabbed its first (and only) lead at 79-78 with 6:41 remaining; Kate Martin countered right back to give Iowa the lead, and they never trailed again. Warnock hit a three-pointer two minutes later to hand the Hawkeyes an 86-81, and Iowa put the game away.
Iowa Hot Shooting
Iowa used hot three-point shooting to help them get the victory. The Hawkeyes shot 11-19 from beyond the arc, which is good for 57.9%. They managed this with their star player Caitlin Clark only shooting 1-6 from three-point land. Mckenna Warnock led the way shooing 7-9 on three-point shots. She finished the game 23 points and ten rebounds. Also, Iowa shot well from the field as a team; the Hawkeyes shot 61.7%.
Caitlin Plays Well
Clark led Iowa in scoring with 31 points on 11-24 shooting from the field. Clark is consistently aggressive and is going to get her shots up. She also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out 12 assists. Monika Czinano scored 20 points on 10-14 shooting from the field. Iowa did a great job moving the basket and getting whatever shot they wanted. As a team, the Hawkeyes had 22 total assists.
Nebraska Shooting Struggles
Nebraska had four of their five starters in double figures; Sam Haiby led with 18 points. Although they had four starters score double figures, they still struggled from the field, shooting 39.8%. The Cornhuskers also shot only 9-34 from three, which is good for 26.5%. What kept the game close for Nebraksa was they won the rebound battle 41-34. Twenty-three of their 41 rebounds were offensive. Offensive rebounds lead to second-chance points. Huskers missed some open looks, but Iowa also played some excellent defense.
