Last month Jennifer Rizzotti was fired as head coach of the George Washington Women’s basketball team. On Monday, the next step in Rizzotti’s career was announced. Jennifer Rizzotti was named the President of the Connecticut Sun, a team in the WNBA. Rizzotti will repace Amber Cox, who left to become the CEO of the Kansas City NWSL team.

Jennifer Rizzotti on Taking the President Position
Rizzotti grew up in Connecticut and played her college basketball there as well. She is honored to rejoin the WNBA Family. “I am so honored to rejoin the WNBA family in this leadership position with the Connecticut Sun,” Rizzotti said in a statement. “This league employs the very best women’s basketball players in the world. But more importantly, the WNBA is an inclusive and diverse community of women that inspire, lead and in their own words, “provide a voice for the voiceless.” I am proud to have won two championships as a player in the WNBA and will work tirelessly to help bring a championship to the Sun franchise.”
Rizzotti coached 17 seasons at Hartford’s as the head coach before spending five seasons as George Washington’s head coach. The Mohegan Sun Board of Governors are happy with the hiring. “Jen Rizzotti brings instant credibility and is a powerhouse within the women’s basketball community. She has deep roots here in Connecticut and we could not be more thrilled to have her joining our team,” Connecticut Sun Board of Governors representative and recording secretary for the Mohegan Tribal Council Kathy Regan-Pyne said in the statement. “Her passion, talent, and expertise, along with her shared values and philosophies, make her a natural fit within our organization. We look forward to the team’s continued success and path forward under her leadership and alongside our incredible staff, coaches, and players.”
Rizzotti Playing Career
Rizzotti played her college ball at UCONN. She was a member of the 1995 NCAA women’s championship team and was Player of the Year in 1996. The former point guard played five seasons in the WNBA for the Houston Comets and the Cleveland Rockers. Rizzotti won two WNBA championships with Houston.
