In a win against Oklahoma, Kansas State’s junior center Ayoka Lee scored 61 points. Lee’s 61 points are the most scored in a single game in NCAA Division 1 women’s basketball history. Cindy Brown previously held the record, who played for LongBeach State and Minnesota’s Rachel Banham.

“I didn’t come in expecting to break a record,” Lee said. “I think [it was] just sticking to our game plan, running what we needed to run, and our guards did amazing.”
Kansas State beat Oklahoma 94-65, so Lee almost outscored the Sooners whole team. Oklahoma came into the game ranked No.14, and after the loss, they have a 16-3 record. Kansas State is unranked and now is 15-4. The Wildcats started the game with a 15-0 run, and Lee had 12 points.
Lee came into the game third in the nation, averaging 23.6 points per game. So far this season, Lee has scored 43 points and 38 points twice.
On Sunday, Lee was very efficient from the field, shooting 23-30. She also shot 15-17 from the free-throw line. In addition, Lee grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked three shots.
“I’m just so thankful for the people around me,” Lee said. “For my teammates and my coaches trusting me. We came out and just took care of business. We still have so much season to play, so I’m just excited to see how the rest of it goes.”
Lee is most likely to return to school for her senior year, but she is eligible for the WNBA Draft. The way she scores the basketball in the paint, she could help many WNBA teams out if she decided to come out.
With the upset, Kansas State should get in the Top 25 rankings. We will see where they land. On Wednesday, Kansas State will take on No.15 Texas; it should be a fun game to watch.
