Katie Ledecky Swims into the History Books at Paris Olympics

When it comes to greatness and the Olympics, Simone Biles has cemented her place, and Katie Ledecky has done the same. Ledecky already added to her medal total early on in the Paris Olympics with a Bronze in the Women’s 400m Freestyle. This time, she hit the pool at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in the French city of Saint-Denis to go for Gold.

It was the race where she holds all the records – the Women’s 1500m Freestyle. In fact, Ledecky won Gold in the event at the 2020 Toyko Games. To the surprise of few in attendance and those watching across the world, she took home Gold once again in the event. Additionally, she set an Olympic record with a time of 15:30:02.

Anastasiya Kirpichnikova of France took home the Silver and Isabel Gose of Germany won Bronze. The impressive aspect of Ledecky’s win is that she won by over 10 seconds as Kirpichnikova came in with a time of 15:40:32. More impressive, she holds the top 20 times in the history of the 1500m Freestyle as her time this time around is good for the eighth-best.

Moreover, Ledecky is tied with former American swimmers Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin as the most decorated American female Olympian. The win gave Ledecky her 12th Olympic medal and her eight Gold medals tied her with Thompson all-time. She will have a chance for the record as she looks to qualify for the Women’s 800m Freestyle.

All things considered, Ledecky is not just the greatest American female swimmer ever; she is the GOAT. If you don’t believe me, ask Michael Phelps:

In Toyko, she won Gold in the 800m Freestyle and stands a good chance of doing so in Paris. All eyes will be on the Olympic Aquatic Centre when Ledecky hits the pool.

Huske Takes Home the Silver in the Women’s 100m Freestyle

The Games of the 33rd Olympiad have been great for Torri Huske thus far. She has Gold in the Women’s 100m Butterfly and Silver as part of the Women’s 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay. This time, the Fairfax, Virginia native added another medal, winning Silver in the Women’s 100m Freestyle.

Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström (52.16) edged out Huske (52.29) by just .13 seconds to win the Gold. Nonetheless, it was the first time in Huske’s Olympic career competing in the event. It was one of the more exciting races of the 2024 Paris Games.
