On Sunday, the OL Reign announced that they acquired World Cup Champion Rose Lavelle from The Washington Spirit. In exchange, the Reign handed over a natural first-round pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft and $100,000 in allocation money. However, with her loan to Manchester City announced this morning, she will not be seen in Seattle anytime soon.
Taking this into consideration in the negotiations, OL Reign will control Lavelle’s future playing rights in the NWSL.
“Rose is an incredible talent that we believe has all the attributes to be the best player in the world. While we would have loved to have Rose join our club today, she fits perfectly into our long-term vision for the squad. We are willing to make necessary short-term sacrifices, exercise the needed patience, and do whatever work is required to realize our goal of bringing Rose to OL Reign in the future.”

Initially drafted to the now-defunct Boston Breakers, Lavelle joined the league in 2017. Following the team’s exit, she joined the Spirit and has played for Washington ever since. She is now entering an impressively stacked lineup in Seattle. Joining USWNT teammate Allie Long along with Welsh international Jess Fislock in midfield. She is adding to the Reign’s already dangerous roster putting the Reign at the top of every team’s mind.
Kelley O’Hara To Washington
But Lavelle isn’t the only USWNT player heading to a new city. Following this, more news came Sunday afternoon that the Washington Spirit acquired Kelley O’Hara from the Utah Royals. Although the terms of the deal are not known yet, it does not come as a shock to anyone. As negotiations continue, many wonder who else will be in a new uniform come next season.
