Candace Parker made history on July 14 by becoming the first female athlete to be featured on the NBA 2K cover. The Chicago Sky forward announced the news via Twitter yesterday morning.
Candace Parker Breaks Barrier
In addition to being the first female athlete, she is also the first African American female athlete which is huge. This year is both the WNBA’s and NBA2K’s 25th anniversary’s which is ironic.
Three years ago, the 2K franchise added the WNBA into the fold (which was long overdue).
Obviously, the decision to place Parker on the cover displays the investment and belief that the NBA 2K series has in the WNBA. Women and little girls all over the world can pick up a copy of NBA 2K22 on September 10 and see a representation of themselves through Parker being on the cover.
NBA 2K22 will also feature Luka Dončić, Dirk Nowitzki, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kevin Durant.
Nonetheless, today is about Parker who is currently averaging 13.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game.
On the flip side, WNBA fans can play as Parker or their favorite WNBA team in NBA 2K22. Hopefully, the franchise will allow gamers to take their talents online with WNBA teams (long overdue).
This week has been a busy week for Parker as she graced the SLAM cover and soon the NBA 2K22 cover. It’s important to give people their roses while they are here.
Parker is a role model, icon, and future Hall of Famer who is changing the lives of people and especially young women. The Tennessee product is continuing to cement her legacy both on and off the court.
Clearly, the WNBA is here to stay and more franchises like NBA 2K, need to support the league by any means necessary.
September 10th NBA 2K22 will hit the market and gamers can grab their historic copy.
