Los Angeles Sparks assistant coach Latricia Trammell has 26 years of coaching experience; she was head coach in NAIA Division 1 women’s basketball. Trammell coached Oklahoma City University to two national championships in 2014 and 2015. In three years at Oklahoma City, Trammell posted a record of 85-10. Trammell was also the head coach of Western State Colorado for five years and had many other NCAA assistant coaching jobs.
Before joining the Sparks in 2019, Latricia Trammell was an assistant coach for the San Antonio Silver Stars. I had the chance to ask Coach Trammell a few questions about the 2020 WNBA Season.
How is it in the Wubble?
The WNBA, WNBPA, and the IMG Academy has done a great job under the circumstances creating a safe, positive environment for all athletes and staff.
What’s, are some of the keys for the Sparks in the second half of the season?
Our first priority is keeping our team safe and healthy. We truly believe the team that has everyone playing, energized, and healthy going into the playoffs will have an incredible chance at winning a championship.
Candace Parker looks like a different player this year; what do you think led to it?
Candace is doing an incredible job. She is in year 13 and looks like she is in year 5. She is in a really good place mentally and physically. I think the lack of travel this season; she isn’t cramped on a commercial flight. She doesn’t have to travel once a week to Atlanta and catch a red-eye to get back to practice. This plays a toll on certain players. Her daughter is here in the bubble with her. I’m extremely happy for her.
Do you ever want to be a head coach again?
When the right fit presents itself, I would like to be a head coach again and especially in the WNBA. My primary focus currently is helping Coach Fisher and this team win a championship.
Who is the best player you coached?
That is a very hard question to answer. I’ve been very blessed to coach some amazing players/people in my 26 years of coaching. It would be hard to pick just one.
