Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair: Part II

I wrote a piece recently discussing why WWE needed Becky Lynch back. Identically, both are and were needed back in a big way. In the case of Lynch, it was to boost the women’s division on Monday Night Raw. However, in the case of Sasha Banks aka “The Boss”, it was to save the women’s division on SmackDown.

100 Days as Champ

On last week’s episode of SmackDown, there was an observance for the EST of WWE: Bianca Belair. She celebrated 100 days as SmackDown Women’s Champion. She defeated Banks at WrestleMania 37 to win the championship.

Back to the “celebration”, Carmella came out said their previous match was terrible because of the lights in her eyes and she wanted a rematch. The last match between Belair and Carmella was at the Rolling Loud festival in Miami two weeks ago. In summary, the lighting was not the issue. The issue was having a wrestling match at a concert.

Anyway, Zelina Vega came out, feeling she deserved an opportunity at the title, not Carmella. Belair looked interested in the prospect of facing Vega and accepted her challenge. Instead, she was ambushed by Carmella and Vega. That is until the Boss made her return back to the blue brand.

The Boss Makes the Save

Her entrance music played, and the crowd popped in the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She hit the ring, taking care of Vega and Carmella and clutching Belair’s arm. In truth, I thought Banks was going to attack Belair. On the contrary, Banks embraced Belair, which was quite odd.

Seeing that the ambush by Carmella and Vega happened and Sasha Banks happened, the main event that night was Carmella/Vega vs. Belair/Banks. Saving time, Banks made Carmella tap out with her finisher, the Bank Statement, to win the match.

After the match, Belair and Banks celebrated until Banks attacked Belair. She placed the SmackDown’s Women’s Champion in the Bank Statement twice as the show closed.

The Rematch

With this in mind, we will get the rematch from WrestleMania 37: The Boss vs. The EST at SummerSlam on Aug. 21st in Las Vegas. Undoubtedly, this is the right way to go because there was no other way to go. In her 100+ day reign as champ, Belair has defended the title against two other superstars: Bayley and Carmella. Bayley is out with an injury, and Carmella has fought Belair many, many times, it makes sense.

Banks, like Pepperidge Farms, did not forget what took place in Tampa on April 10th of this year. It was a great match and, for that reason, it won an ESPY for Best WWE Moment last month. History was made that night being the first two Black women to headline WrestleMania. At SummerSlam, why not make some more history?
