With the anticipated start time for the NCAAW season being a month away, November 25th, much discussion is occurring in preparation. Arguably one of the best women’s basketball conferences to this day is the SEC from teams like South Carolina and Mississippi State to Kentucky and Tennessee. This conference has some standout players that you should know before the season starts. Here are the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
Arkansas: Chelsea Dungee
Chelsea Dungee of the University of Arkansas is a returning redshirt senior starter. Dungee during the 2019-20 season averaged 16.9 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 1.6 APG, 1.5 STL, 32.1 MPG. This Razorback team has valued Dungee and her game after she transferred after her freshman year at Oklahoma. This past season Dungee earned many honors from All-SEC Second Team, Naismith Award Watch List, and Wooden Award Watch List to name a few. She has broken various school records during her time at Arkansas. Her aggressiveness and passion are shown on the court. Look out for Chelsea Dungee because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
Auburn: Unique Thompson
Unique Thompson for Auburn University will be a returning starting senior for the Tigers. Thompson during the 2019-20 season led the Tigers with 16.2 PPG and 11.4 RPG. This team has relied on Thompson’s leadership during her past three seasons, especially during SEC play. During this past season, Thompson earned many honors. From All-SEC First Team to Honorable Mention All-American (AP), Unique’s contributions do not go unnoticed. Her fire does not go unnoticed in the league, especially in the SEC. Look out for Unique Thomspon because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
Kentucky: Rhyne Howard
Rhyne Howard for the University of Kentucky is a standout player. She is a returning junior who has been making huge impacts on the league since she was a freshman. Howard finished second nationally in points with 23.4 PPG. She also led Kentucky in both rebounds and three-pointers. She has a long list of achievements dating back to her freshman year from earning SEC Freshman of the Year to this past season winning SEC POY, the list can go on and on. Rhyne’s game has been top-notch since day one and is a huge threat to opponents. Look out for Rhyne Howard because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
Mississippi State: Rickea Jackson
Rickea Jackson of Mississippi State University is a star bound sophomore for the Bulldogs. Rickea was a huge asset for the Bulldogs as only a freshman. Jackson finished averaging 16.5 PPG during the 2019-20 season. She earned many honors joining many upperclassmen on the Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Tournament Team as well as joining the SEC All-Freshman team during her first season. Rickea proved a lot on the court during her freshman season and she will do nothing short of better this upcoming season. Look out for Rickea Jackson because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
South Carolina: Zia Cooke
Zia Cooke from the University of South Carolina is another outstanding player for the class of 2023. Cooke was one of five freshmen that made up the number one overall recruiting class. Despite high expectations, Zia Cooke delivered, contributing to SC’s run to the number one spot in the national rankings. Cooke earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team alongside MSST’s Rickea Jackson. She led the team or tied for the team lead in scoring in eight SEC games, a huge accomplishment for a freshman. Look out for Zia Cooke because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
Tennessee: Rennia Davis
Rennia Davis from the University of Tennessee is a versatile player for the Vols. Davis has been a valuable player for the Vols ever since her freshman season. During the 2019-20 season, her junior year, she averaged 18 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 2.5 APG. She was first on the team in many categories such as scoring, rebounding, free throws made, and three-pointers, and not far behind in others. Awards from this past season include but are not limited to WBCA Coaches’ All-America Honorable Mention, WBCA Regional Finalist, and All-SEC First Team. Standing at 6’2″ she can stretch the floor at both the guard and forward spot. Look out for Rennia Davis because she is apart of the SEC Standouts: WBB Edition.
