Sha’Carri Richardson made her return to the track this past Saturday in Jacksonville. Florida. Richardson ran 11.37 and 11.27 in two 100m races. She ran those times into headwinds, and it was rainy conditions.
Richardson’s 11.37 time was good for fourth place, but there was a rerun later, and Richardson won with a time of 11.27. It is unclear why exactly this rerun took place.
Up next for Richardson is a showdown against Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica on Saturday, the Pre Fontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, live on NBC Sports and Peacock from 4-6 p.m. ET.
Thompson-Herah, who swept the 100m and 200m at the last two Olympics, has already run 10.89, 10.93, and 10.94 this season. She withdrew before last Saturday’s Diamond League meet in Great Britain because of discomfort in training, then ran a 10.94 at a meet in Kingston.
Justin Gatlin said Richardson has run a 10.3 in practice. “She comes through, boop, 10.5s, boop, 10.3s, you know I mean. That’s smashing the world record that Flo-Jo put together. So if she is doing it at practice, it is only going to be a moment of time if she puts it together in a track meet, in a real meet. She is breaking the world record,” said Gatlin.
If Richardson ever does run a 10.3, it will break Florence Griffith Joyner’s world record of 10.49. It will be an exciting race on Saturday and will be fin to watch; make sure you tune in.
