Back in March, guard Taylor Mikesell transferred to the University of Oregon. She played the past two seasons for Maryland in the Big Ten. Oregon announced that Mikesell is able to play for the 2020-21 season.
Oregon head coach Kelly Graves is excited to have Mikesell on the roster this season. “We are incredibly excited to know we will have Taylor available to play this season. Taylor is a true shooter who will really open things up for us offensively, and her veteran leadership will be important for this young team.”
Taylor Mikesell
Mikesell is one of the best three-point shooters in the country. As a freshman made 95 three’s on 231 attempts. That is good for 41% from three-point land. Mikesell made more three in single-season male or female in Maryland’s school history. She also averaged 13.4 points per game and won Big Ten Freshman of the Year. The next year she averaged 11.2 points per game while shooting 42% from the beyond the arc. As you can see, Mikesell is an outstanding three-point shooter.
Coach Graves is thrilled to have a shooter like Mikesell join the Ducks. “We are thrilled to be able to add a player of Taylor’s caliber. She is a proven winner and one of the very best pure shooters in the nation. And she’ll add another veteran presence to our young team. Taylor is a tremendous fit for our program, and I can’t wait to get her to Eugene.”
Oregon lost their three best players to the WNBA. Sabrina Ionescu, Satou Sabally, and Ruthy Hebard all have moved on. The Ducks will have a young team next year, with five freshmen coming in. Having a player like Mikesell stretch the floor will help the Ducks. It will give their key players space to work because you have to stay attached to Mikesell when she is on the floor. If you do not, Mikesell will kill you from the outside.
