The Chicago Sky Waits on the Return of Candace Parker After Losing Six Straight Game

Chicago

After making one of the biggest signings in free agency; the Chicago Sky couldn’t have imagined their season getting off to a more unfavorable start. After dropping Wednesday night’s game to the Phoenix Mercury, Chicago collected its sixth consecutive loss.

They were once again without Candace Parker who has missed Chicago’s last six games after being sidelined by an ankle sprain.

The Sky got back Allie Quigley; who missed five games with a hamstring injury and Stefanie Dolson who left to compete for the USA 3×3 Women’s Basketball Team.

The game had very similar features as the previous match-up on Tuesday in Chicago; the Sky once again built a large margin in the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold it. After a huge Mercury run, a technical foul on Courtney Vandersloot would tie the game and force overtime.

During this period the Sky would later again give up a 5 point lead before losing the game (77-74).

The game was also another tough shooting night for Chicago; as they shot only 25% from 3 on 8-21 shooting while hitting only 34% from the floor. Chicago was able to cut down on their turnovers only recording 8 during the game; Chicago was also able to score 16 points off the 17 Mercury turnovers.

Despite the loss, Chicago has not pressed the panic button yet on their season; in the post-game presser guard Vandersloot told me that, “This team still believes that they can win a championship, and we are not holding our head down and once we get everyone back, we will be a great basketball ball team.”

The Chicago Sky’s next opponent will be the Los Angeles Sparks who have already taken two games from Chicago to pick up the season series. Make sure to tune in today at 3:00 PM ET on ABC.

Los Angeles will be without the sister tandem Nneka Ogwumike and Chiney Ogwumike who are both out with knee injuries.

Since losing Parker, the Sky have posted a 1-6 record and with no timeline of her return; the Sky must start stringing together wins.
