The WNBA All-Star roster is set; Tuesday, 12 reserves were selected by the coaches. Now that all the players have been announced, the next order of business is the All-Star draft, which will take place live on ESPN on July 2 at 3 p.m. ET.
The league has again returned to the captain’s picks format, and this year there will be co-captains: A’ja Wilson and Sue Bird on one side, Breanna Stewart and Sylvia Fowles on the other. Like every year, there are some All-Star Snubs, players that should have been on the team.
Allisha Gray Dallas Wings
Allisha Gray is having a career-year averaging 15.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Gray also plays excellent defense, making her one of the best two-way players in the WNBA. In addition, she is shooting 45% from the field and 43% from three-point land. Gray can do it all; she should have been on the All-Star team.
Elena Delle Donne Washington Mystics
Elena Delle Donne has had a strong season coming off an injury; she is averaging 15.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. In addition, Delle Donne is shooting 46% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. She has missed some games due to minor injuries and rest, but Delle Donne has been outstanding when she plays.
Kelsey Mitchell Indiana Fever
Kelsey Mitchell averages 19.2 points per game and shoots 40% from the three-point line; she is fourth in the WNBA in scoring and averages 4.1 assists per game. Mitchell is one of the bright spots for the struggling Indiana Fever. She could have been snubbed from the All-Star roster because of the Fever’s 5-15 record, but Mitchell still deserves to be an All-Star.
Picking All-Stars is always challenging because somebody is always left off the team. So then the question becomes, who do you take off the roster, and it is never an easy answer.
