The 2023 WNBA Draft has concluded, and it was an interesting draft. Aliyah Boston went with the first pick, as everybody thought. However, some of the players went later in the draft and could be steals for their teams.
Brea Beal Minnesota Lynx
Beal was drafted in round two with the 24th pick; she should have been drafted higher. Beal was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year; she is a strong perimeter defender.
In 2021-22, Beal shot 24% from three-point land; she improved her shooting this past season to 38% from beyond the arch. If she keeps improving her shot, she can become an outstanding three-and-D player in the WNBA.
Alexis Morris Connecticut Sun
The Sun took Morris in the second round with the 22nd pick; she averaged 15.4 points and 4.1 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 32.9% from beyond the arc.
In the NCAA Tournament, Morris scored 16.8 points per game. She has quickness, can handle the ball, create her own shot, and is an outstanding mid-range shooter. Morris shot 48.1% on two-pointers.
Taylor Mikesell Indiana Fever
Taylor Mikesell was taken with the first pick of the second round by the Fever; she was the best shooter in the WNBA Draft. With Boston and NaLyssa Smith on the front line in Indiana, the Fever will need floor spacers to space the floor; Mikesell can provide that.
In 2021-22, she shot 47.55 from three-point land; this past season, Mikesell shot 41.7% from beyond the arc. If Mikesell makes the Fever roster, she could become one of the best shooters in the league.
