The Mist met Lunar Owls in Saturday’s only Unrivaled game. Having only met once before, in the season opener, Mist was looking to get one back. And as it looked in the first game, they were on their way to doing just that.
Lunar Owls took the early lead and held onto it for the first quarter, leading 25 – 17. Then in the second quarter, Mist turned on the gas, and with two-and-a-half minutes to go, took a 35 – 34 lead on a Breanna Stewart two-point shot. Owls tied the game at 45 – 45 on a Napheesa Collier two-pointer, but Jewell Loyd hit a buzzer-beater three to put Mist up 48 – 45 at the half. Mist then went on to build on their lead, and outscored Lunar Owls 25 – 20 to that an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter, 73 – 65.
Just like in their first matchup, the winning score would be 84. Mist held the lead until Allisha Gray tied it up for the Owls at 75 – 75. They took a lead of 79 -77 on a Collier two-point shot, then a Collier two-point free throw took it to 81 – 77. Stewart got it to 79 – 81, then Collier hit another two making it 83 – 79. Stewart hit a two-point free throw to 81 – 83. Finally, Skylar Diggins-Smith threw a perfect pass to Shakira Austin, and once again, Lunar Owls came from behind to beat Mist 85 -81.

Final Thoughts On This Lunar Owls – Mist Unrivaled Matchup
This was an excellent game. It was fast-paced and exciting, and everyone looked like they were having fun, except toward the end when Mist could see the writing on the wall. Unfortunately, the writing was more than legible. To watch the two founders of Unrivaled go at it added another layer of excitement to the game, and both teams were locked in. This was what Unrivaled should look like, and for the most part, has throughout this inaugural season.
Starting Monday, the one-on-one series begins, so we’ll be back to covering when the regular schedule starts up again. But do check in this week and watch your favorite players go head-to-head. Guaranteed fun.
And that, my friends, as they say, is that.’ — Martin Ruben.
