For the first time since 1993, the USWNT has lost three matches in a row. The U.S. hosted Germany in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday night and fell 2-1. This loss also snapped the team’s undefeated home streak since 2017. The other two losses in the USWNT’s three-game losing streak came from England and Spain in October. The USWNT and Germany will face off again on Sunday in Harrison, New Jersey.
Match notes
Both teams made it through the first half without conceding a goal. The first-half play seemed pretty evenly matched, with ball possession being about equal. The U.S. ended the first half with more shots than Germany. The momentum shifted in the second half after Lindsey Horan nearly opened the scoring when her bicycle kick attempt rattled off the post in the 51st minute. Germany struck a minute later when a shot from Klara Bühl hit the post, bounced off of Casey Murphy and rolled into the goal. Megan Rapinoe came off the bench and scored a late equalizer in the 85th minute, but Germany quickly responded when Paulina Krumbiegel scored the game-winner four minutes later.
In the span of one minute… the post was hit on both ends and Casey Murphy makes a save before Germany finally score the opening goal!

Time for a new coach?
Vlatko Andonovski took over as head coach when Jill Ellis stepped down after the 2019 World Cup. Since then, the national team has gone 41-5-6 in 52 matches, winning a bronze medal at the Olympics and the 2021 CONCACAF Championship. While that looks good on paper, fans have been concerned about the team’s tactical adjustments, a slew of injuries and recent roster inclusions and snubs, among other things. Some fans have been calling for Andonovski to be fired since the Olympics. Losing the fourth match in a row will undoubtedly make Andonovski’s seat even hotter. With only eight months remaining before the World Cup, would it make sense to get a new coach?
