DeWanna Bonner has signed with the Indiana Fever. Bonner, an unrestricted free agent after completing the 2024 season with the Connecticut Sun, will provide the Fever with scoring defense, experience, and rebounding.
Scoring Ability
Bonner will significantly boost the team’s scoring. Her ability to create her shot, play transition, and stretch the floor with her three-point shooting would be a valuable addition. Her scoring prowess, as evidenced by her 15 points-per-game average last season, could be a game-changer for the Fever’s offense. Playing with Caitlin Clark could lead to a lot of easy baskets.
Defense
Standing at 6 ‘4, Bonner’s long wingspan could be a significant asset for the Fever’s defense. Despite her age, she has proven her ability to guard multiple positions, disrupt passing lanes, and provide rim protection. Her defensive versatility could be a game-changer for Indiana, strengthening its defensive schemes and addressing rebounding issues.
Rebounding
The Fever was a strong rebounding team that increased its rebounding with Bonner. She will help out in this department. In her WNBA career, Bonner has averaged 6.1 rebounds per game. Bonner’s ability to crash the boards and contribute to the hustle stats would address gaps in rebounding or second-chance opportunities for the Fever.
Experience
Bonner enters her 13th year in the WNBA and brings a wealth of experience to the Fever. Having spent last year with the new Fever, Stephanie White will have experience with her system. Her years of WNBA experience could be a significant addition to the Fever, providing a calming and guiding presence for younger players while still performing at an elite level.
The Fever has added Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham, and Bonner. With Kelsey Mitchell back, the Fever has a ton of scoring threats. Clark should have fun with this team of scorers. Also, with Aliyah Boston, Howard, and Bonner, the Fever will have tremendous length on their front-line defense. With these moves, the Fever is now a contender.
