WNBA Attendance Report (August 18 Update)

Follow along here at Beyond Women’s Sports for the weekly attendance updates in the WNBA. The numbers reported below are up to and including all games through August 18. The league remains at 12 teams for 2024 but will expand in 2025 with the Golden State Valkyries. Additionally, the WNBA recently announced they will expand again, this time to Toronto for the 2026 season.

WNBA Attendance: Week in review

The WNBA returned to action following their Olympic break on Thursday, August 15. Overall, there were 13 games played for this week. The highest attendance for this week belongs to the Indiana Fever for their two sold-out games of 17,274 on August 16 & 18. The Atlanta Dream had the lowest attendance for the week with 3,260 on August 16.

At this point in the season, the Indiana Fever has seen the largest increase from last season (+317%). Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks are second (+73.9%) followed by the New York Liberty (+64%). Overall, league attendance is up by 46.6 percent from 2023 and this season is currently third overall in league history (9,699). Only the 1998 and 1999 seasons averaged more fans (10,869 and 10,205).

Capacity numbers are provided by each team’s individual arena’s website. Newly added is each team’s away game attendance as well. The Week Ahead

The upcoming week will see a total of 14 games in action. The featured matchup will be the ION double-header on Friday, August 23 with the Sky taking on the Sun (7:30 pm) followed by the Aces taking on the Lynx (9:30 pm).
