WNBA Attendance Report (May 26 Update)

Follow along here at Beyond Women’s Sports for the weekly attendance updates in the WNBA. This is the second report for the 2024 season, as the regular season began on May 14. The numbers reported below are up to and including all games through May 26. The league remains at 12 teams for 2024 but will be expanding in 2025 with the Golden State Valkyries. Additionally, the WNBA recently announced they will expand again, this time to Toronto for the 2026 season.

WNBA Attendance: Week in review

This report spanned the week from May 20 through May 26. In total, there were 17 games played during this one-week timeframe. The Aces and Sparks have hosted four games, while the Sky have hosted only one home game. The largest attendance for the week belongs to the Sparks on Friday, May 24 (19,103). The smallest attendance for the week goes to the Atlanta Dream for their two games on May 21 and 26 (3,265).

After two weeks, overall league attendance is up by nearly 40% compared to the final average from 2023. The Indiana Fever, after two sell-outs, has the largest increase from 2023 (+13,207). Currently, three teams are below their final average from 2023 (Phoenix, Minnesota, and Washington).

Below is the graphic comparing to the 2023 season’s final averages. The reported capacity numbers for each arena are based on the team’s arena being fully open. Half of the league’s teams play in NBA-sized arenas that, unless needed, close off their upper bowl sections*.

The Week Ahead

The upcoming week will see games resume on Tuesday, May 28. The featured matchup this week will be the Chicago Sky heading to Indianapolis to face the Fever on Saturday, June 1 (noon on ESPN).
