WNBA Attendance Report (Sept. 15 Update)

Follow along here at Beyond Women’s Sports for the weekly attendance updates in the WNBA this season. The numbers reported below are up to and including all games through September 15. The league remains at 12 teams for 2024 but will expand in 2025 with the Golden State Valkyries. Additionally, the WNBA recently announced they will expand again, this time to Toronto for the 2026 season.

WNBA Attendance: Week in review

Overall, 18 games were played for this week beginning on September 9. Once again the highest attendance for the week belongs to the Indiana Fever’s three sellouts (17,274) on September 11, 13, and 15. The lowest attendance for the week belongs to the Atlanta Dream for their sellouts on September 10 and 13 (3,260).

At this point in the season, the Indiana Fever has seen the largest increase from last season (+318.8%). Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks are second (+68.3%), followed by the New York Liberty (+63.7%). Overall, league attendance is up by 47.9 percent from 2023, and this season is currently third in league history (9,787). They averaged more fans in the 1998 and 1999 seasons (10,869 and 10,205).

Capacity numbers are provided by each team’s individual arena’s website. Each team’s away game attendance is newly added as well. The Week Ahead

The WNBA is now heading into its final week of the regular season. Only 11 games will be played this week, ending on Thursday, September 19. The 2024 WNBA playoffs will begin on Sunday, September 22 with all four first-round games being aired on the ESPN family of networks.
